• Yummy Cupcakes

  “Hands down, they have the yummiest cupcakes in town. They are known for their red velvet cupcakes, but all of their gourmet cupcakes are to die for. I cannot help but smile when picking out which ones to devour next.”

  “This is my favorite breakfast place in town. Everything on the menu is fantastic, but I highly recommend the chocolate pancakes and the Louisiana sausage special. Their zucchini shreds are killer, and I get them every time I go. The service is excellent, and you cannot beat the price.”

  “Honestly, the only reason I first visited Carly Jean was because of the name, but I soon realized that I had discovered a jewel in the heart of Burbank’s Magnolia Park. They have unique one of a kind pieces that are both vintage and contemporary. Prices are very reasonable, and I stop in at least once a month to see what is new in stock.”

  “If you love dancing on chairs and leading a conga line, then this is the place for you. The decor is a little tacky, with a giant sharks head hanging on the wall and Christmas lights on the ceiling, but the sushi is great and the atmosphere is hard to beat. They perform a nightly show and play games such as “Mystery Sushi” and “Lucky Lamp.” I always have a blast.”

  “It’s a great place to find any book you have ever wanted on spirituality while at the same time sipping a complimentary cup of tea. They offer meditation on a daily basis and other special classes such as yoga. I love browsing through their organic cookbooks as well as their horoscope section.”

  “There is nothing better than meeting up with friends and watching a classic movie under the stars in a cemetery. Basically you can bring whatever you want to eat and drink. Just bring a blanket to claim a spot in the grass. Don’t worry; you won’t be lying on any bodies. Hang out while DJ’s spin great music until the movie starts. Unfortunately, the screenings are seasonal. They last from May until September.”

On the Road

  “It is my favorite bar in Norman, where I went to school, and is the quintessential college hang-out. They are famous for their “Sooner Swirls” and you can’t go wrong with their chips and queso. Good food. Good times. Good drinks.”
• Beachcomber Restaurant

  “I am a huge fan of oysters and the Beachcomber has the best in town. The restaurant is right on the beach and it is my favorite dive in St. Augustine. You can expect to see plenty of surfers in action while dining there.”
• Angelika Film Center

  “I love independent films and when I lived in Dallas, the only place to see them was the Angelika. They serve gourmet snacks from the concessions stand and drinks from bar that you can bring into the theater during the evening screenings. I’m there any time I am back in Dallas.”
• Cold Spring Tavern

  “Located at the bottom of a ravine, the Cold Spring Tavern is straight out of the Old West. Over one hundred years ago it used to be the last stop for stagecoaches before hitting the Pacific Ocean. The food is delicious and they are very generous with their portions. Oh, and it is absolutely gorgeous there, so don’t forget to bring your camera.”
